The Rho Kappa Honor Society has a very long history. Founded in December of 2011, this academic invite-only organization is based on how students have previously done in their social studies classes. The purpose of this society is to share the knowledge of history among the students of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, which helps connect students to their communal interest in this subject. STA is fortunate enough to have a chapter of the Rho Kappa Honor Society.
In order to enroll in this society, students are required to have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.75 or higher. They also must achieve an average of 93% or higher in two consecutive semesters of an honors social studies class or an 85% or higher in an AP social studies class. Students also must have completed at least two credits of full year high school social studies courses.
The officers of Rho Kappa Honor Society have been established for the 2025-2026 school year.
Additionally, a large group of high-achieving students have been recognized as eligible members. Because of the high number of students enrolled in this society, students are separated by grade level. The seniors meet on the first Wednesday of each month in room 230 with Mr. Gardner. Meanwhile, the juniors will meet on the first Wednesday of each month in room 314 with Mr. Carey.
Splitting the two grades creates more opportunities for students to apply for officer positions. For the Junior Class, there are a strong group of students who will help embolden this honor society. The president is Matthew Martinez; the vice president is Mariana De Santis; the treasurer is Isabella Sanborn; and the secretary is Anabella Alvarez. This group of officers will help lead the Rho Kappa Honor Society for the Juniors. For the Senior class, the co-presidents are Joseph Eacobacci and Zora Angelovski, the secretary is Hudson Matthews, and the treasurer is Kae Elo.
Students who are struggling in social studies classes can be tutored by peers who have previously mastered these concepts. The honor society hosts tutoring sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:15 in room 314. It is highly encouraged that students come and get assistance within their classes in order to avoid falling behind.
For any additional information on the Rho Kappa Honor Society, contact any of the officers listed above or the two moderators, Mr. Gardner and Mr. Carey.
