On Wednesday, October 29th, The STA Special Olympics Club hosted their first event of the school year. Partnered with Aquinas Kindness, the two clubs hosted a bracelet making event, where participating students who completed one bracelet were offered two service hours. Many students attended the meeting, resulting in an array of colorful bracelets, which will be distributed during races and walks throughout the year.
The Special Olympics is a global organization that changes lives by promoting understanding, acceptance, and inclusion among people affected by various disabilities. The STA chapter is moderated by Ms. Stephens, and includes students who want to make an impact in the community. Throughout the years, the club’s mission has been centered around providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. This creates opportunities for them to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship.
Students wishing to join in the cause can see Ms. Stephens in the Large Conference Room and will be added to the email list. Throughout the year, the club will be completing various projects hosted by the Special Olympics of South Florida, which has events every month. During the month of November, the club assembled a team to participate at the Sallarulo Race for Champions on November 8th, 2025. This event was a 5k run/walk. At this event, the club distributed the bracelets the students made last week.
