Luka Doncic is considered one of the best basketball players in the world, and has been living up to that title throughout March of 2026. This season, he has been averaging 33.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. In the month of March, he averaged 37 points per game and led the Los Angeles Lakers to the third seed in the Western Conference. He helped make the Lakers look like a legitimate finals contender and has led them to win 10 games in an 11 game stretch. He is currently 2nd in the MVP race and has a really strong chance to win it.
He even made history with one of the all-time greats, Michael Jordan. Luka has been averaging 40 points on a six game road trip which hasn’t been done since Jordan. The last time this happened in the NBA was in the 1986-1987 NBA season. So, for Luka to be in the mix with Jordan is a very high achievement and a sign he is doing really well.
During this stretch, he also scored 60 points for the first time as a Laker, which was against the Miami Heat. Ever since his divorce, although a truly unfortunate event, he has been taking over and playing his best basketball. The only thing that might prevent Doncic from winning the MVP is his defensive play. His defense can be a little inconsistent, but if he can get that straightened out, there is little that can stop him from winning that trophy. The only player in front of him is Shai and it is possible Luka can overtake him. STA Freshman, Kaynden Jones, commented, “Luka has been looking like the best player in the world in my opinion and in my mind he is the MVP right now.” Doncic has been balling in the Month of March and the MVP is really looking attainable for him!
