As the La Liga season drew towards an end on the weekend of May 22, the champion may have already be crowned, but the relegation battle to determine which teams would be sent down to La Liga 2 remained action-packed and full of drama. An incredible seven clubs were still fighting to avoid relegation heading into the final matchday of the season.
The clubs involved in the battle, along with their position in the table and point totals after Matchweek 37, were as follows:
19th: Mallorca — 39 points
18th: Girona — 40 points
17th: Elche — 42 points
16th: Osasuna — 42 points
15th: Levante — 42 points
14th: Deportivo Alavés — 43 points
13th: Sevilla — 43 points

With every team separated by no more than four points, one mistake could have drastic consequences and potentially send a club down to the second division. Every match is essentially a must-win situation, which should make for intense and passionate soccer on the final day of the season.
The matchups for this exciting relegation battle were as follows:
Sevilla vs. Celta Vigo
Deportivo Alavés vs. Rayo Vallecano
Getafe vs. Osasuna
