On May 23rd, Juniors will celebrate senior step up day, which is in preparation for going into senior year. Transitioning from junior year to senior year of high school is a huge milestone in every student’s high school journey. Being the final year before stepping into adulthood, senior year has a mix of anticipation, excitement, and maybe even fear. It is a time when students prepare to handle the challenges and opportunities that are ahead of them. Juniors are keeping in mind during this transition that within a year from now, they will be on the brink of going to college and starting a new chapter of their lives. From dealing with college applications to savoring the last moments of high school and childhood, the transition from junior to senior year is a major chapter of life filled with growth, dedication, and working hard for a bright future.
Juniors Mason Jean and Mariano Veiga provided some insight into the picture of what is going on in the mind of a junior who is about to make that transition into senior year. Although some juniors are nervous, Mariano is not, saying, “No, I’m not really nervous. I am just nervous for what comes after senior year: going to college, making new friends, and being on my own.” Mason said, “All I am nervous about is college applications and getting into a school I want to go to, not the transition itself.” In regards to the most anticipated aspect of senior year, Mason said, “I am really excited to live out my last year of highschool to the fullest, and tackle whatever obstacles life throws at me during senior year.” They elaborated on their favorite year of high school; Mariano said, “Either freshman year because I had the least amount of responsibilities and my stress levels were low or this year because I’ve matured a lot and had lots of fun with my friends I’ve made during high school.” Mason said, “Freshman year; life back then was so stress-free, and I had a lot of fun.”
From these experiences shared by two juniors about to transition into senior year, it is evident that the transition may not be so stressful after all. Of course, senior year is a big deal because it is the conclusion of high school, but it is as equally intimidating as it is exciting. If juniors approach the transition with optimism, they can be assured that their futures will work out as God planned.
