The NBA Conference finals began on May 18, 2026 and four teams were left looking at a chance to make it to the NBA finals. The last four teams were the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Starting off in the East, the New York Knicks were coming off a very good series where they swept the Philadelphia 76’ers. The Knicks had a whole week to prepare as the Cleveland Cavaliers series went for seven games with the Detroit Pistons. In game one, the Cleveland Cavaliers looked like they were going to be the team to beat having a lead that got up to 22 points. The New York Knicks rallied with eight minutes left and made a historic comeback, pushing the game to overtime and ultimately beating the Cavs 115-104. This game crushed the Cavaliers, because as the rest of the series went on they did not play the same and got swept in four games. Star guard James Harden received a lot of backlash after the series as he did not perform as the world expected him to. As for the Knicks, they punched their ticket into the NBA finals and will now wait to see the winner between the Thunder and the Spurs.
On the Western side, as of May 27, the Thunder are winning the series 3-2 and will play the next game on May 28 trying to close out the series in San Antonio. In the series, Victor Wembanyama has been the catalyst, scoring 40 plus points and collecting more than 20 rebounds. Guard Shai Gilgeous Alexander has been the X-factor for the Thunder as he scored 32 points in game five to give the Thunder the lead in the series.
