Kylian Mbappé is widely considered one of the best soccer players of his generation. After winning the FIFA World Cup at just 18 years old and scoring more than 400 career goals, it would seem that any team would benefit from having him. However, some fans and analysts believe his style of play can sometimes hurt team chemistry.
During the 2021–2022 season at Paris Saint-Germain F.C., Mbappé was part of a star-studded lineup alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi. Many expected PSG to win the UEFA Champions League, but the club fell short, and some critics blamed Mbappé for not contributing enough as a team player.
Years later, Mbappé transferred to Real Madrid CF in what seemed like a dream move. Despite his impressive first season, in which he scored more than 40 goals and won the La Liga Golden Boot, Real Madrid struggled overall and finished the season without winning any major trophies. Once again, some fans pointed fingers at Mbappé.
Before Mbappé arrived, former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema helped lead the club to multiple trophies from 2020 to 2022. One reason for Benzema’s success was his strong chemistry with teammates Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo. Many fans believe Mbappé has not yet developed that same level of connection with his teammates and can sometimes appear selfish on the field.
Freshman Sebastian Magnum said he believes Mbappé is an incredibly talented player, but he still needs to improve his teamwork. According to Magnum, “Mbappé is already one of the best players in the world, but becoming a stronger team player could help him become an all-time great.”
