The St. Thomas Aquinas High School Baseball team had to be content with just a two-run lead in their last appearance on the field. Perhaps this was what fueled them to dish out a ten-run thrashing to Calvary Christian Academy on Friday, March 20. The Raiders taught the Eagles how to play baseball as they took home the win with a 12-2 verdict. Victory is not a new concept for the Raiders, who are now on their sixth win in a row.
Brady Swartzwelder looked very comfortable as he pitched for two innings without allowing the opposing team any earned runs on just one hit. Swartzwelder has been consistently reliable, not allowing the opposing team to accumulate more than two hits anytime he has pitched this season.
At the plate, the team got a tremendous performance from Nico Sabatino as he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Matthew Conger also earned some recognition by running his first doubles for the season. While in the box, Sabatino appeared self-assured and focused, commenting, “I felt confident at the plate, and I knew I had to do my job up there!”
STA kept the outfield busy as they ended the game with more than twice the number of hits as their opponent, Calvary Christian Academy. They hope to continue their winning streak as they advance towards the ultimate goal, the Class 6A State Championship in May.
