In a season defined by resilience, preparation, and unity, both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams rose to the occasion and won the State Championship. The girls secured a commanding 65- 22 victory while the boys followed with an impressive 67-51 win.

For the girls team, the championship represented more than just a win. It was all the moments of dedication, hard work, and shared sacrifices. “It feels like a reward for all the hard work we put in as a team, “ said Alaira Ferguson. That sense of collective effort was evident all season, as the team leaned on one another through every challenge.

Ronneisha Thomas, one of the team’s leaders, carried a focus and determined mindset from start to finish. “Through the season, my mindset was no matter what’s happening, I have a goal, and I will do whatever to reach it,” She explained. Even in high pressure moments, her leadership stood out. “Stepping on the court, I was already thinking we came too far to lose. I was communicating key points to my team and telling them what I saw so I could help us.”
For London Thomas, the victory held deep personal meaning after falling short the previous year.”Winning the championship is an amazing experience, especially after coming up short last year. Just being able to execute it with my sisters and enjoy special moments, like this,”she said. She also reflected on her growth, explaining how the journey made her a stronger teammate and boosted her confidence. In fact, her belief in the potential and execution of her team never changed. “Before the game, our energy and the way we were warming up let me know you were about to win.”

The boy’s team matched the same intensity and turned their experience into execution. Nate Accius delivered an amazing performance on the board with 17 rebounds, crediting the team’s preparation as the key. “Going into the game we were prepared. We watched film of the other team so we knew what to do,” he said. That preparation fueled their drive to win the game and become state champions.

Drake Sandi, also known as “DJ” reflected on one of the most defining moments of the game-the team’s ability to fight back. “Definitely, when we came back from being down, because that shows what our team was about all year; fighting through adversity,” DJ said. His journey was also shaped by an important influence: his dad as his coach. “It’s really a blessing in disguise because he coached me hard and I played hard. It motivated us as a family to make history.”
Both teams demonstrated what it means to commit to a specific goal, trust God’s process, and rise to the occasion in big moments.Their championships are not just stats but a powerful example of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication. With sights already set on the future, one thing is clear, this is not the end of their story. As Ferguson confidently said when asked about next season: “We are coming for Another One.”
