The NFL Divisional round kicked off the second week of the NFL playoffs. The first game was in Denver, with the Buffalo Bills playing against the Denver Broncos. This was the most viewed Saturday playoff game of all-time with 51.9 million viewers watching from home. The Broncos won this game in overtime 33-30. Despite being a good game, it had heartbreaking results for both teams. For the Bills, they lost the game due to a questionable interception call at the end of the game during overtime, but many people viewed the play as a catch. There were also two costly pass interferences at the end of the game called against Buffalo that put the Broncos in field goal range to win the game. As for the Broncos, although they won the game, they lost their starting quarterback Bo Nix for the rest of the playoffs, as he fractured his ankle on the 2nd to last play of the game. With the win, the Broncos make it back to the AFC championship game for the first time since 2015. Experts were saying that the Broncos were the worst number one seed of all-time, but they definitely proved them wrong with this win.
The next game was in Seattle with the San Francisco 49ers playing the Seattle Seahawks. This game wasn’t even close. The Seahawks won in an a blowout, with the final score being 41-6. The Seahawks defense played so well that the outcome of the game was decided by the 3rd quarter. Spectators were concerned for Sam Darnold, who entered the game with a right arm injury, but he got rest in the 4th quarter since Seattle had such a strong lead.
The third game of the week took place in New England, as the New England Patriots took on the Houston Texans in one of the most anticipated matchups of the week. The Texans defense has been looking incredible this season, but Drake Maye was ready for it, and came in and absolutely dominated, taking the win 28-16 for New England. The Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears had arguably the game of the week. Caleb Williams showed he is made for big moments but still has plenty of work to do in crunchtime decisions. TAlthough he threw the game-tying touchdown, sending the game into overtime, he was unable to mirror this in overtime, and threw the losing pick. The game was a defensive battle, and in very harsh conditions, the Rams came out on top 20-17.
