Soccer has a problem, and its name is Bayern Munich. This season, they went 16 games undefeated in the season, for a total of 71 goals against their opponents’ 21. Bayern Munich has won or tied every game, until they faced Arsenal and lost with a scoreline of 3-1 in the Champions League.
They are first in the Bundesliga with 11 wins and one draw. They clear the Bundesliga easily, and are eight points ahead of their competitors and have even defeated some of the top teams this season. These teams include the Champions League reigning champs PSG, and the Club World Cup Champions Chelsea. They have the best attack this season, with 109 goals and assists combined in the calendar year. Their team has maintained an impressive record, despite having their star player Jamal Musiala out since the summer. He sustained a leg injury after a devastating tackle by Gianluigi Donnarumma in the Club World Cup.
Bayern is comfortable up top with 37 points, eight points ahead of second place RB Leipzig. Even though they are known for dominating the league, they struggled two years ago and got third place to Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart. Throughout the following year, they dominated the league and won with 90 points while the second place team had 73 points.
Freshman Jhett Holmes, shared his insight on the Bayern team this season. He believes that Bayern has what it takes to win the Champions League, “…they can if they stay consistent and healthy throughout the season.” Holmes does not believe that the Bayern team and their attack is setting the bar high for the future. He thinks the talent coming up in upcoming years can “do better than them.”
