On December 3rd, St. Thomas’ Cheer team proved that they have the loudest chants and the most impressive tricks. They competed in a cheer meet in the main gym, rehearsing their routines against J. P. Taravella High School and their rival, Cardinal Gibbons. This was not just a normal cheer meet, however; this was a monumental meet because it was the first cheer meet to be hosted by Saint Thomas Aquinas. This incredible event showcased the talents of the STA Cheer team while honoring the time and commitment of the Seniors on the cheerleaders’ Senior Night.
Students and families came to support their cheer team in the main gym and watch the high stakes competitions. The varsity football team also attended, repaying the cheerleaders for their hard work by cheering them on and supporting them through their successful football season this year.
Due to their noteworthy performance, the cheer team qualified for UCA Regionals, where they will compete against other teams in Lakeland, Florida on Saturday, December14th. Last year, the STA Cheer team was State Finalist making it an impressive competition as it was only their second year competing. The team hopes to make it there again, and if they do well this weekend, they will qualify for Nationals and hopefully continue their impressive success. Freshman and Competitive Cheerleader Sofia Bond says that the team’s success at the meet, “encouraged the team to continue to make improvements and it reinforced the fact that [they] can win at [their] next competition.” This hard work will be displayed as the cheerleaders prepare and use their talents to be the best of the best and come out on top.
