The STA Boys’ Volleyball team played against the Belen Jesuit Wolverines on Tuesday, April 1st, in the main gym at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Both the JV and varsity teams took the court in consecutive matches.
The first game was the JV match-up. The St. Thomas Boys’ JV team won against Belen in two sets. The first set concluded 25-16, and the second set concluded 25-18. Player of the match was awarded to both Connor Frye with ten kills and Robert Pedragosa with six kills. Giordano Pernas started the rallies hot with four aces. Derek Brown had seven digs, and Connor Frye was right behind him with six digs. Setting up his hitters, Derek Brown put up an impressive 21 sets. Helping out on defense, Giordano Pernas received a total of 11 serves. The STA Boys’ Volleyball Team used all of their strengths to work together during this game.

Varsity was up next as they played their hearts out on the court. Unfortunately, they lost the match in a close game but put up impressive stats. Leading in kills was Kamaal Medina, who had ten kills. Strong server John Virginio scored four points on the scoreboard with four aces. Joseph Virginio kept the ball up with eight digs in the game. Elijah Lam gave all his hitters a chance with 27 sets. John Virginio received 12 serves, with Luke Swadener following up, receiving 11. Both JV and Varsity played great games, and even though Varsity may have lost, the numbers prove their talent through the sets.
