At the moment, Tottenham Hotspurs sit in 18th place in the Premier League table. As one of the “big six” teams, this is an unusual and surprising position. Manchester City is the only team to previously underperform at this level, and it was prior to their transition into a giant team. Tottenham’s performance has dipped recently, especially after the departure of key players like Harry Kane and Heung Min Son. Recent injuries to several important players have also contributed to their struggles, placing them in the relegation zone.
Tottenham have lost four of their last five Premier League matches, although they managed to tie with Liverpool, which seems like a big achievement for them considering their difficult stretch.
One major concern if Tottenham were to be relegated is the financial impact. They may run into trouble paying off the stadium that they built in 2019, which cost around $1.3 billion. Freshman Cian Gleeson is optimistic, saying, “Tottenham Hotspurs can make it out of relegation.” The team is currently two points behind West Ham, so they can make it out, though it won’t be easy.
Relegation would presumably cause a drop in revenue for Tottenham, which could make it difficult for them to pay off the stadium. It could also lead to the departure of key players, who would prefer to play in the Premier League, rather than the Championship League. Still, Tottenham could have a chance to come out of relegation, as their upcoming Premier League matches are against Brighton and Wolves. They are capable of beating both teams. While avoiding relegation is possible, the idea of a club like Tottenham going down would be a shocking and notable moment in the Premier League.
