The biggest football game of the year kicked off on February 8, 2026, with the Seattle Seahawks facing off against the New England Patriots in Superbowl LX. This game was highly anticipated, as it was a rematch of Superbowl XLIX, which ended in dramatic fashion when the Patriots intercepted the ball from the Seahawks on the goal-line to seal the win. This time around, the Seahawks were the number one seed in the NFC, and the Patriots were the number two seed in the AFC.
To start the game, the Seahawks received the ball and put together a promising drive. The drive went all the way to the 15 yard line where the Patriots defense held together to force a field goal, taking the score to 3-0 Seahawks. When the Patriots took the field they could not put points on the board, punting the ball back to the Seahawks. The rest of the first half looked very similar to the first two drives, as the Seahawks defense would not let anything past them, constantly pressuring Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
The Patriots defense continued to hold up, only letting in two more field goals despite their offense not putting points on the board. Going into halftime, the Seahawks were leading 9-0. The game was very stagnant in the first half and people were ready for some more action in the second half. Although the game itself was relatively tame, the halftime show made up for it. STA Junior, Sophie Barnes, commented, “the game was a little boring, but I really liked the halftime show – it was very different.” The halftime show was headlined by Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, and people around the world were very excited about the show. The show was performed mostly in Spanish so some had mixed reviews about the artist.
To start the second half, the Patriots received the ball looking to finally put points on the board and make the game competitive. As soon as the Patriots took the field it was a repeat of the first half, as on third down, Seattle cornerback Josh Jobe broke up a pass, forcing a three-and-out. On the other side of the ball it was the same story as Seattle drove down the field and yet made another field goal, taking the score to 12-0. Throughout the rest of the third quarter, the score stayed the same as both defenses held strong
Going into the fourth quarter, the Seahawks had a two possession lead with their eyes on the Lombardi Trophy. Starting the fourth quarter, the Seahawks had the ball, and a pass from Sam Darnold to tight end AJ Barner gave us the first touchdown of Super Bowl LX. The score was now 19-0 and the Patriots were now playing in desperation. The Patriots needed a touchdown, and they did just that, as Quarterback Drake Maye found wide receiver Mack Hollins on a deep throw to make the score 19-7 with twelve minutes left. Going back on defense, the Patriots got a stop and their comeback hopes were starting to become closer. New England got the ball on their own three yard line, and looked to punch in another touchdown. As Drake Maye dropped back to pass, he threw an interception to Seahawks’ safety, Julian Love, sealing the game and crushing the hopes of Patriots fans. The Seahawks scored yet another touchdown and also a field goal, while the Patriots scored one more time, making the final score of Superbowl LX 29-13. Seahawks’ running back, Kenneth Walker III, won Superbowl MVP, being the first running back to win the award since 1998.
