The STA JV Soccer season comes to an end as the team plays a JV tournament at Gulliver Prep. The two groups in the tournament bracket are as follows:
Group A
Gulliver
Belen
STA
Group B
Columbus
Ransom Everglades
Palmer Trinity
The tournament format is formatted so that each team plays three games, but advancing depends on a team’s performance in these games. Each team plays their first two games, and will either advance to the semifinals or a 3rd-place consolation game. For the consolation match, both 3rd place teams face off at 9am to see who will come out on top for 3rd place. First place in Group A will face second place in Group B and first place in Group B will face second place in Group A. The semifinals will be at 10:30 am for 1A vs 2B and 12:00 noon for the other semifinal for 2A vs 1B. The winners of these matchups will advance to the final at 3:00 in the afternoon.
The first game of the JV tournament is STA at Belen Jesuit. This is the rematch from the first game of the season where the Raiders were triumphant 2-0 against the Wolverines. If the Raiders win again, they will be in a better position to advance to the semifinal game and win the tournament. The second game will be STA at Gulliver Prep. This is also a rematch of a 1-0 loss the Raiders had in the middle of the season that broke the chances of STA being undefeated. There are many speculations of the match and how it will end. Freshman Theo Dorvil said “I believe that Belen Jesuit will be the toughest team to beat because Saint Thomas has only beat their B team 2-0, and now they have to go against their actual team.” Dorvil shared that the team prepared for the tournament well by having good team meals, planning strategies, and team talks. He is excited to be in this tournament because of the teams and competition it brings!
