Liverpool, a major club in European football, is a six-time Champions League winner with 20 Premier League titles. However, Liverpool has recently experienced a major decline in match performance. Liverpool is one of, if not the biggest, clubs in England, and one of the best in the world. After spending over four hundred million euros on stars like Kerkez, Ekitke, Writz, Frimpong, and Isak, they were favored to win nearly every trophy available this season. With that being said, Liverpool is now struggling to win games that they should easily win.
Liverpool is currently on a five-game losing streak in the Premier League. The last game they won was against Frankfurt in the Champions League, where they won five-to-one. Liverpool has lost to teams like Brentford, Crystal Palace (twice), Man. United, Chelsea, and Galatasaray. The biggest shock was the loss against Galatasaray, because they play in the Turkish league, a less prominent league, and Liverpool was still beaten by them in a Champions League match. Liverpool went from second to seventh place in the Premier League in a matter of a few weeks.
Liverpool’s games don’t get any easier after they face Aston Villa, because they face a strong Real Madrid with LaLiga’s top scorer, Kylian Mbappe, in the Champions League. After Real Madrid, Liverpool will face the powerful Erling Haaland from Manchester City. With Liverpool spending 400 million on top players, they are expected to be dominating all their games, but this is not the case.
Liverpool bought these players because of their incredible seasons last year, hoping that they would fit their team well. Florian Wirtz got 32 G/A last season, and was on the Bundesliga winners and underdog Bayern Levurkensen team. Alexander Isak’s last season with New Castle got 32 G/A as well, making 27 goals in all competitions. These impressive stats indicate that Liverpool should be performing well, but at the moment, they only have a combined five G/A. This is nothing compared to Premier League’s top scorer Erling Haaland’s combined G/A of 28 in all competitions. Liverpool is having a major let down at the moment, and many people are waiting for Liverpool to bounce back to the top. The bounce back will surely take time after this terrible start to the season for Liverpool.
