Sophomore Isabella Cabrera (#10) and senior Isabella Sangha (#18) put up a block against Cardinal Gibbons.
On Wednesday, September 24th, the STA Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team played against rival Cardinal Gibbons at 5:30 p.m. It was played at St. Thomas on the Raiders’ home court in the main gym. The game consisted of three sets, all of which STA dominated. The first set ended at 25-18, the second at 25-17, and the final set closed at 25-7 with a Raider victory! Overall, the STA Varsity showed off their exceptional offensive and defensive skills, showing up for their most anticipated match.

On the offensive side, the Lady Raiders took total control of the games, winning by multiple points in each set. The seniors stood out, with Emmi Mehri getting ten kills, Isabella Sanha getting seven, and Violette Zayas getting five. Also, Leah Novatnes, Sydney Guerrier, and Isabella Cabrera had four kills each. On the serving line, sophomore Isabella Cabrera had four aces, with Emmi Mehri, Sydney Guerrier, and Hailey Trebbien having one ace each. The Lady Raiders had no trouble racking up points, showing their aggressive skills with their hits and serves.
Defensively, the STA Raiders shut down the Chiefs, claiming each set with carefully calculated digs, blocks, and serve receives. The seniors put the Chiefs’ offense to the test with seven blocks from Isabella Sangha and three blocks from Sydney Guerrier. Not only could they block, but they also showed no struggle in receiving the hits from the Chiefs. Seniors Adriana Medrano, Emmi Merhi, and Sydney Guerrier each had nine digs, Violette Zayas had two digs, and sophomore Isabella Cabrera had four digs. Setters, Hailey Trebbien and Sydney Guerrier, had 14 and 12 assists, while Isabella Cabrera had three assists, Adriana Medrano had two assists, and Sofia Tang had one assist. Finally, on serve receive, Emmi Mehri had an impressive 23 serve-receives, and Adriana Medrano and Isabella Cabrera had four each.
The Lady Raiders showed up and completely dominated the highly anticipated rivalry match against the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs. Excelling in both offense and defense, the STA Girls’ Varsity volleyball team put their hard work to use and ultimately came out on top!
