The FIFA World Cup was first played on July 13, 1930. The tournament wasn’t originally called “The World Cup,” but instead the Olympic Games. The first country known to win the cup is Uruguay. Over the years, the World Cup rules and locations have changed. In previous years, the tournament has taken place in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States and Uruguay. In 2026, the Americas are fortunate enough to host the World Cup. Next year’s competition will have 13 games in Canada and Mexico, and 78 games in the USA. Unfortunately, tickets will be expensive. The least expensive ticket is roughly about $323 according to si.com. The FIFA World cup is a tournament that doesn’t happen often.
