The New iPhone 16 presents many new features that excite Apple users, including larger 6.3″ and 6.9″ sizes for Pro, a new “capture” button, an action button for all iPhone 16 models, a faster A-series chip, vertical camera lenses for standard models, and Wi-Fi 7.

This launch event began on September 9th, at 1 PM EST (10 AM PST). This event was set to be one of the biggest Apple launch events in recent history, since not only the iPhone 16 was being announced; the company had also announced that it was looking to make major updates to the Apple Watch, and AirPods.

Some people may question why this launch was on a Monday at a peculiar time when most people were at work or school. But the Presidential debate that happened on September 10th will be in the news for weeks to come, so Apple did the smart thing by getting it out of the way before all the news of the Presidential debate takes over the media for a long period.

The theme of the event was “It’s Glow Time,” a reference to Siri’s new interface. For the iPhone 16 family, Apple has developed a new A-series CPUs based on the most recent N3E 3-nanometer node. Performance and efficiency gains are possible, but specifics on what to anticipate have not yet been disclosed. Although the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro may have different chips—the more advanced chip being exclusive to the Pro models—all devices should be able to utilize the iOS 18 Apple Intelligence features. Rumors are suggesting that the new Siri will be AI-powered with a boost to the microphone. Siri has not seen any significant changes, and this was the first time in a while that Siri has gotten a major update.

The four iPhone 16 models received the Action Button, which was previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models, in 2024. Additionally, a new “Capture Button” for capturing images and movies was rumored to be part of the iPhone 16 lineup. Similar to how the shutter button functions. STA sophomore Grayson Buth said that he’s really looking forward to the amazing camera functions.

Apple fans line up every year to get the new products.Whether it’s new AirPods or new iPhones, the faithful fans will stay. The iPhone is a wonderful machine but is it worth it? No, although the new features are quite nice, any other phone will do the job. Sophomore Juanfelipe Hernandez said “I will not be buying the iPhone 16 because it is very expensive.” Unless you are into photography and want a better camera, there’s no point of buying the iPhone 16 when the older models do the exact same thing.
