Water Polo Regionals: Girls and Boys

Water+Polo+Regionals%3A+Girls+and+Boys

Regionals are competitions where teams from different regions or districts compete against each other. From Monday, April 8, to Thursday, April 11, 2024, the STA  girls’ and the boys’ water polo teams competed against other schools in their region.

Game 1: St. Thomas Aquinas Boys vs. Western

In the first round, the boys played against Western High School at South Broward High School. The boys won 22 – 2. Holden Harkins and Samuel Eastaugh scored 7 goals, Lev Konnikov scored 6 goals, and Connor Jimenez and Francesco Pillegi each scored 1 goal. Marcel Valharmi had 6 saves, and Anthony Montalto had 5 saves. In total, the boys had 18 assists and 13 steals.

Game 1: St. Thomas Aquinas Girls vs. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School

The first game the girls played was against Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School at South Broward High School. The girls won 20 – 4. The stats for this game have not been entered.

Game 2: St. Thomas Aquinas Boys vs. Cooper City High School

The boys’ second game was played at Cooper City High School against Cooper City. The boys won 11 – 7, a very close game. Lev Konnikov scored 3 goals, Francesco Pillegi, Tommasso Leonardi, and Holden Harkins scored 2 goals, and John Corbett and Sam Eastaugh both scored 1 goal. Marcel Valharmi had 12 saves.

Game 2: St. Thomas Aquinas Girls vs. South Broward High School

The girls’ second game was also played at Cooper City High School where they faced off against South Broward High School. They won with a score of 13 – 7. Stats have not been uploaded for this game.

Game 3: St. Thomas Aquinas Boys vs Miami Country Day High School

The regional final was held at Cooper City High School, where the boys played against Miami Country Day. They won 10 – 6. Lev Konnikov and Samuel Eastaugh each scored 3 goals, Francesco Pillegi scored 2 goals, and Holden Harkins scored 1 goal. Marcel Valharmi had 8 saves including a penalty shot. 

Game 3: St. Thomas Aquinas Girls vs Miami Country Day High School

The girls’ final regional game played at Cooper City High School, where they faced off against Miami Country Day. The girls lost with a score of 7 – 12. Stats for this game have not been uploaded. 

Congratulations to the St. Thomas Aquinas Boys’ Water Polo team for placing first at Regionals, and gaining the opportunity to advance to States! Congratulations to the St. Thomas Aquinas Girls’ Water Polo team for winning 2nd place at Regionals!
