About the Swimming and Diving Team

Head coach of the STA swim team, Alex Wathen, has been at St. Thomas Aquinas for seven years. However, this year is his second year as the swimming team’s head coach. There are approximately 30 girls and approximately 20 boys on the swimming team, making up a huge swimming powerhouse! 

Swim Meets

This year, the STA Swimming and Diving Team won the 2023 BCAA Swimming and Diving Men and Women Championships. They came in second for the 4×50 freestyle and 4×100 freestyle. They also came in first, second, and third in the 100 backstroke. So far, they have had 7 swim meets, all of which ended with a win!  They celebrated a big win in the Catholic Championship where they placed first overall!  

Thoughts on the Swim Team

Carolyn Powell, a Sophomore at St. Thomas Aquinas, says she loves being on the swim team. She stated, “I really enjoy swimming, and I also am really happy with my teammates and coaches.” Carolyn transferred from Marjory Stoneman Douglas to join the St. Thomas Aquinas Swimming and Diving Team. Sophia Itzkowitz, a sophomore at STA, says, “The swimming and diving team is a really good place to get to know people. Swimming gives me a break from all the drama, and I also love all of my coaches and teammates so much.”
