Helping Hearts is a club at STA, where love and kindness is shown. Throughout the month of February, members of Helping Hearts remembered the devastating loss of the students who passed away on February 14th, 2018 in a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, a nearby high school in Parkland. As a club, the students came together to make heart-shaped paper notes of remembrance that were placed around the STA campus. The club members sent out an invitation to the STA student body to join in writing the notes. Hopefully, gathering people together to write these notes and decorate our campus with them has raised awareness that February 14th is not just Valentine’s Day: it’s a day to stand in solidarity with the cause of MSD Strong.

Students interested in participating were able to check in with their name on the MobileServe app. Students earned 1-10 hours depending on how many notes were made. The club tried its best to get as many people to join and participate, and many members encouraged their friends to participate in this event. Later on, the club members hung these heart shaped notes up around the school campus. This symbolized our remembrance and devotion towards Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Freshman Anjolie Escarda-Ramsay said, “It makes me feel good to know that my participation in a service project is helping to promote love and kindness in my school community. It is the least that I can do to make my world a better place.”
