On December 4, 2024, CBS reporter Megan Cerullo says the CEO of United Healthcare has been suspected to have been brutally murdered by Luigi Mangione. Brian Thompson, a husband to Paulette Thompson, was shot to death on Wednesday right outside of the New York Hilton Midtown in the city of Manhattan.  Not only was Brian a husband, but a father to two young sons whose names have been concealed from the public eye. 

The 50 year old CEO had been receiving threats prior to his death, proving to police that the murder had been well planned and thought out. The morning of Mr. After Thompson’s death he was making his way to the Hilton Midtown for his morning meeting. Mr. Mangioni is being held as the main suspect due to the fact that he was carrying a ”ghost gun,”  a type of gun that cannot be tracked by the police, at the time of the murder. CNN reporter, Steve Almasy, revealed that former colleagues of Mangione say they find it “unbelievable” that he would be a suspect of a murder. Those who know him say he is a normal guy who often plays video games and watches sports. He was known as a brilliant student and even won valedictorian in his high school graduating class. Student Nicolas Margelu says “His death not only affects my insurance but also others.” Another student Sofia Williamson says, “His death doesn’t really change anything for me. I never even knew about him until now.” Luigi Mangione is innocent until proven guilty and the case is still under investigation.

As the investigation continues, a court date will be set for trial.
