Pharrell Williams Lands A New Spot At Louis Vuitton

    Pharrell+Williams+Lands+A+New+Spot+At+Louis+Vuitton

Pharrell Williams is a producer, rapper, and singer known for his many productions in 2000’s music.  He has worked with big artists such as Snoop Dogg and Travis Scott throughout his career.  Despite his experience in the music industry, he also has an eye for fashion.  His eye for menswear led him to his new position at Louis Vuitton, as creative director for men’s couture.

In 2004, Pharrell and Louis Vuitton collaborated on a pair of glasses, marking his first interaction with the brand creatively.  He has also worked with Bape, which is a clothing brand started in Japan during the 1990’s. He worked with the brand through his close relationship with Tomoaki Nagao, also known as “Nigo”. He also appeared on Nigo’s album that he helped produce. After this, Pharrell created Billionaire Boys Club, which was his label. Nigo and Pharrell continued to work together during the years that followed.

Louis Vuitton’s previous creative director, Virgil Abloh, died from cancer in 2021, thus leading them on the hunt for a new creative mind. They chose Pharrell to fill this spot because of the similar cultural insight he and Virgil shared. Pharrell also has a well-rounded artistic background and outlook. Some new changes expected for the  brand include more  jewelry-based items due to Pharrell’s known taste for jewelry. On top of that, Louis Vuitton is pushing to acquire Tiffany & CO, a well-known jewelry brand, to make their introduction into jewelry. Pharrell Williams’ new spot as creative director is due, in no small part, to his genuine passion for art that he has expressed throughout the years.
