This cross country season started on July 28th and has had a very strong start. The team is led by Coach Trish Butler, who has been a strong leader for the past 20 years at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, and has made a big impact. Butler is also accompanied by her assistant coaches, Jon Gardner and Bobbette Stewart. The cross country captains are senior Ella Collins, and sophomores Taylor Gold and Charlotte Lee.
Shark Bite and Dr. Garcia BullDog Invitational
The Cross Country team had their first race at the Shark Bite Invitational. This race took place at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton. The boys placed 4th and the girls placed 2nd, losing by a mere 2 points. For the girls, freshman Kendal Parrott placed second overall with a time of 19:38, and was short of first place by less than three seconds. However, in the Garcia BullDog Invitational, the girls took home the win by twenty-four points. Once again, Kendal Parrott led the team while achieving her personal best of 19:17.3.

The Team
The teams have consistently practiced six days a week since June 1st. Their mindset plays a big part in their daily lives and practice. When asked about how the team mentally prepares, Coach Trish said, “Working on daily habits will support the process and prepare them mentally for race day.” Their collective goal this year is to make the state championship, which helps the team unite in their goal for victory. Their greatest strength is within the pack. They are able to always stay close to another with the top 5 finishing within a minute of each other.
The year’s team is set up for success with their determination, work ethic, and the amazing leadership they are surrounded by.
