C.A.R.E Club, short for “Cancer Awareness, Raider Edition”, is dedicated to spreading awareness about cancer, supporting the affected, and encouraging early prevention and healthy living. C.A.R.E Club’s goal is to hopefully reduce the stigma around cancer and inspire others to support everyone affected by it. The club gives students a chance to help make a change and show compassion for cancer fighters and survivors.
When you’re a part of C.A.R.E Club you are in a place that feels like a community. This is especially true because there are so many others who experience the pain that cancer brings on to patients and their loved ones. In this club you build teamwork skills and grow in empathy while making an impact on the community through education.

Students come to the C.A.R.E. club for many different reasons, Kylie McGowen, a sophomore, says, “I joined C.A.R.E club because my grandpa died of lung cancer and I think that we should be raising awareness to it. I like the C.A.R.E club because it has a good message of helping people with cancer or helping raise awareness to people.” Member Hayes McGrath, a sophomore, explains, “I joined because my aunt and grandfather had cancer. I enjoy going to the meetings because I get to connect with other students that had the same experiences.”
The C.A.R.E club works hard to raise money and awareness of cancer by holding events. These events include, monthly ribbon making for a different cancer each month and holiday card making for the hospitalized. Some larger events would include the Pink Dime Drive, a fun competition to see which homeroom can raise the most donations, which starts in October. They hope to be able to hold bake sales at different parishes throughout the year. The goal for the parish bake sales is to expand contributions beyond STA to reach as many people as possible.
