With the first quarter underway, so are the many activities that come with it as well! Students now have countless opportunities to get involved around campus, whether it’s through classes, sports, and clubs. One of these clubs is the Psychology Club. Led by club president Alena Rayko, the club offers students a wide range of experiences, such as opportunities to earn service hours, leadership experiences, and the chance to participate in meaningful fundraisers. Alongside the fundraisers and charitable causes they support, the club is also looking to fill new leadership positions this year. They are seeking grade representatives who will promote meetings and come up with ideas, as well as a treasurer to keep track of service hours and fundraising proceeds.
Among the club’s many fundraisers that raise money for people in need one upcoming event is Boograms, they will be sold the week of October 27th and will be sold on Monday and Tuesday of that week. This initiative raises money for cancer patients working with the organization Mondays Cancer Care whose mission is to minimize the impact cancer has and help the well-being of all people. Saint Thomas does this by selling candy that students can purchase for their friends. They do many more things though for example, later in the year they also partner with local care centers for veterans. As well as the participants, the people in the club also love it too. Alena, the club president, says her favorite thing is “the way we can use our psychology knowledge to make a real difference for the people that need it the most. Our drives have powerful motives, such as raising money for the mental health of people with cancer, which I cannot wait to start!”
With everything the Psychology Club has to offer, it is an excellent choice for students who want to help their community. From service hours to fundraising, members are sure to grow both personally and academically. The meetings are held once a month in room 527 on Thursdays, and participation in the fundraisers is required to be active in the club. This club provides everyone the chance to join an engaging community that works to make a real difference in the world while developing skills that will last a lifetime!
