Did you hear the locker rooms are getting new screens?! The long hallway in STA’s training center boasts big digital screens that cover the long walls that lead to the locker rooms. The screens play clips of various STA sports teams, such as the football team, featured with hype music. Yet, using donated money on the screens can come with many pros and cons.
First, the screens could serve as a device to hype up teams before a game. When these sports teams are running out before a game, the screens play motivating music and videos that serve as a mood-booster for the players. The players could even see clips of themselves before a game, which could give them a good reminder on the strength of their sport performance and how far they’ve come. Coaches can also put team goals, motivational quotes, or even notable plays the team has done to motivate the team.
Although our school gets many donations and does many fundraisers, is spending money on screens the most beneficial idea?
The school spent money on new screens that go in the locker room hallway, but there are so many other ways that money could have been used to better all students of STA. The same money could have been used for upgraded equipment and training gear, fundings for away games, coaching resources, team meals, or even reducing the cost of participation fees. Those investments could have been used to make a bigger impact to boost accessibility of sports at STA for those who could not afford it, as well as offer all teams the proper resources they need to succeed.
Despite this argument, students at STA say they love the screens and are excited to see the impact they can have on athletes in the upcoming school year.
