Choosing between attending a state championship baseball game or your own graduation is a challenging decision; one that STA’s class of 2025 varsity baseball team had to make. Both of the events, scheduled on Saturday May 17th, 2025, have major significance. The baseball state championship game represents all the hard work and effort they put into the season; the dedication, the sportsmanship, and the opportunity to get athletic recognition. On the other hand, graduation is a big milestone that marks the completion of a high school academic journey. The seniors get to celebrate the years of educational achievements and personal growth.
Missing a championship might mean losing the chance to contribute to a potential victory and a memory with your teammates. Skipping graduation could mean missing out on a once in a lifetime ceremony that honors your accomplishments alongside peers and family.
Both events hold sentimental value, making it a difficult decision to have to prioritize one over the other without feeling a sense of loss. Each event may have different effects on future opportunities, whether athyletic or academic. In the end, the decision was a hard one to make. Fortunately, STA’s seniors found glory at the end of the day, when their team scored the winning run just as the last senior was crossing the stage. Dr. Aloma informed the crowd at the Rick Case Arena that she had an important interruption. “Baseball Won!” she exclaimed, as graduation caps flew into the air and a photo of the State Champion Baseball Team flashed on the jumbotron. It was a triumphant day for every senior at STA, and the baseball team was satisfied with the outcome of their decision!
