On Saturday, December 7th, STA’s International Thespian Honor Society Troupe 5999 competed in the 2024 District 13 Thespy Competition. The team finished the day with ten Superior scores and seven Excellent scores.
The students who received a score of ‘Superior’ are as follows:
- Heather Johnson for Marketing Design of The Great Gatsby
- Sofia Gonzalez, Avery Patterson, and Vicky Mendez for Solo Musical Theatre
- Presley Dean for her direction of Death of a Salesman
- Alexi Arocho and Cole Christianson for their duet acting piece from The Great Gatsby
- Evelyn Printz for Monologues
- Anaelle Jean-Jacques, Avery Patterson, Ellison Howard, Evelyn Printz, Harley Rojas, Juliana Bohm, Karina Gallagher, Reina DiRoberto, Sofia Gonzalez-Granda, and Valentina Clemente for their performance of the Large Group Musical “OMIGOD You Guys” from Legally Blonde
Additionally, one student received the Critic’s Choice. The Critic’s Choice is given out by the judges to those whom they feel best represent the artistic merits in the room. They are selected from the highest-scoring students. Senior, Alexi Arocho, was awarded Critic’s Choice in Makeup Design for her design of The Great Gatsby and sophomore, Alana Rutigliano, received an Honorable Mention for her costume construction for Steel Magnolias. Alana shared that she felt confident going into the room, and could tell that her work was well received by the judges.
The top six competitors will move on to the State Competition in Tampa this March.
