Thanksgiving will be celebrated by millions of people across the United States on November 28, 2024. It’s a time to show gratitude and enjoy delicious feasts. The traditions surrounding Thanksgiving are why this holiday is so special. From the iconic turkey to the family getaways, each family has their own unique traditions that they bring to the table, creating a cornucopia of memories and rituals that are passed down through generations.
Many students at STA love Thanksgiving. Every student will get to enjoy their time off from school but also enjoy their travels and family time. Freshman Gianna Pirez-Reader says, “This Thanksgiving, I’m planning to go back to New York to see my family.” Sophomore Havana Norton says, “I’m planning on going to Las Vegas to see my dad and brothers.” Students will each be spending their time differently, the focus will be on gratitude and connection!
When it comes to meals, entrees vary depending on the culture and traditions of families. Freshman Coral Johansson says “On Thanksgiving, we always have Mac and Cheese.” Following Coral, sophomore Sophie Barnes listed “ Mac and Cheese, Cornbread, and Sweet Potato Casserole” as the meals her family prepares for the holiday. Meals may vary, yet the focus on sharing and giving thanks never changes.
In the end, Thanksgiving is about more than just the food or the destination. Whether families stick to their tried and true traditions or create new ones, the special holiday allows people to bond and reconnect. No matter how Thanksgiving is celebrated, it’s a day to fill hearts with love and tables with amazing food!
