Upon entering high school, everyone looks forward to being  issued their new Chromebook. It is exciting to have all your work at the touch of your fingers. Every student is issued a Dell Chromebook 3110, known for its portability and affordability. It can, however, be stressful to think that you only have to rely on technology to complete your assignments. Not to worry, the school does a great job of orienting you to your new equipment.

Today, STA issues every freshman, junior, and transfer student the new Dell Chromebook 3110.  This particular model is very popular among numerous high schools. These new computers are not only easy to carry from class to class but also extremely easy to set up. Each teacher will help you become more familiar with your Canvas homepage. Once you learn each teacher’s setup, it becomes an easy resource  to navigate and submit assignments.

It’s not uncommon from time to time to experience some issues with your Chromebook.

From speaking to Tech Support, it seems students most often  “report having trouble with the trackpad or experience a glitch with some software.” Sophomore Brooklyn Quinonez, who was about to take a test in his math class,  reported not having a good connection to the WiFi. This experience can cause a lot of unnecessary stress and shift the focus from taking the test to the IT issue at hand. Therefore, it’s crucial to remain calm and report your concerns to your teachers.

Another major  issue that can be an academic obstruction is forgetting to charge your Chromebook at night or forgetting to bring it to school altogether. To avoid this, the recommendation is to put your Chromebook in the same spot every night to charge for the next day. That way when you go to pack up before school, you will be less likely to leave it behind or uncharged for your day ahead.

Having a Chromebook is a responsibility that can set you up for success or leave you behind on a day’s work. Getting into a routine and staying on top of updates is going to be the key to your academic function. Having a sense of responsibility helps prepare you for the real world and its obstacles. Finally, if you experience trouble, stop by tech support to get the help you need.
