Art is a dynamic form of expression, with a variety of mediums, including literary art, visual art, and many more. Art can be depicted differently depending on the piece and the individual interpreting it. For example, the famous artist Leonardo Da Vinci, and his most famous masterpiece, The Mona Lisa; while some people see the painting as just a woman, others see a deep, symbolic meaning. Paintings can evoke a wide range of opinions and interpretations from different viewers.
There are many documented styles of art that one may encounter including realism, surrealism, and abstract. Realism is the representation of a realistic being or setting in an artistic piece. Surrealism art is more focused on the ideas of the unconscious mind. Lastly, abstract art is nonrepresentational but has a meaning, although it may not be clearly defined.
Sophomore Emma Marshall said that “Art is a form of creativity that comes from the mind.” She also said “What you make of it is a symbolic piece itself.” Emma has dabbled with art in the past as a student, as well as extracurricularly, and she explained that art expresses many different types of feelings for her.
Carlton Weaver, another sophomore, said that since he doesn’t know a lot about art, he doesn’t know what it means to him. However, he does know that it is a great way to express a meaningful idea without having to type it: “It is easier for some people to explain their emotions with photographs and drawings rather than writing.” Art, in its many forms, continues to captivate audiences on different levels.
