STA’s choir held two spring concerts: the first on April 12, 2024 and the second on April 23. The first concert was at St. John the Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, and the latter took place at STA’s very own Bienes Center.
The Concert Song List
Both concerts had numerous pieces of music from different composers. The songs and Aquinas singers (in parentheses) include “O Nata Lux” by John Michael Trotta (STA Chorale), “Steal Away” by Roland Carter (STA Chorale, solo – Kaylee Ramos), “Earth Song” by Frank Ticheli (Aquinas Chamber Singers), “Nyon Nyon” by Jake Runestad (Aquinas Chamber Singers), “Luli, Luli” (Ukrainian Lullaby) by Jill Gallina (Freshman Choir), “Galop from Solfege Suite” by Ken Berg (Freshman Choir), “Berusa Er” by Sten Kalman (STA Chorale), “Ah, Love, but a day” by Amy Beach (Kaylee Ramos), “Desh” by Ethan Sperry (STA Chorale), “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by Peter Lutkin(STA Chorale & Freshman Choir), “Please Stay” by Jake Runestad, (STA Chorale, solo – Jaden Natividad), “When I Have sung My Songs” by Ernest Charles (Isabella Peralta), and“O Del Mio Dolce Ardor” by Christoph Gluck (Jaden Natividad).
How STA’s Chorale Prepared
Although both concerts contained the ensemble choral numbers that the choir had worked to perfect throughout the school year, the Spring Concert served as a farewell to the seniors and contained numerous solo performances and a special farewell message to the graduates. Mrs. Drozdovitch, who runs the STA chorale program, stated, “The Spring concert is a showcase of our work throughout the second semester and is also recognition for the students who have been in the program since freshman year and are seniors now.” The Chorale spent many hours perfecting these songs so STA could create a spectacular performance and effectively send off the seniors.
What’s Next?
Although the Spring Concert marks the beginning of a performance hiatus for the choir, they will continue to prepare for next year’s upcoming events. The two events that they will be focusing on are the All-State, which is a three-day competitive event, and Epcot Candlelight, a performance where a celebrity tells the story of the Nativity scene. The accomplishments of STA’s choir, starting off the year with the Veterans Day concert and ending with the Spring concert, exceeded the expectations that were established at the start of the school year and have set the bar high for the 2024-2025 school year.
