Fostering Francophone Philanthropy: The French Club’s Cultural and Charitable Initiatives

The French Club at STA offers its students the opportunity to learn more about Francophone countries and appreciate the diverse cultures that are centered around the French language. In addition, the club provides an engaging environment which allows students to interact as they familiarize themselves with the French language and culture.

The head of the French Club is Emma Pliske. In the past, the French Club has hosted the Good Samaritan Drive (Christ Mad ). But for the past few years, the club has focused on sponsoring drives in order to collect school supplies to donate. Boxes of supplies are assembled and then donated to schools all over the world. This year, as one of its fundraising opportunities, the French Club opened up its macaron sale for Valentine’s Day. The goal for the macaron sale was to sell 500 macarons and donate the proceeds to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Thanks to the help of the French Club and students, all 500 of the projected funds from macarons were collected and donated. Students enjoyed the flavorsome combinations of the macarons and gave them to their loved ones and friends.

The next fundraising drive that Madame Benyounes plans on hosting will be volunteer based. During the month of March, the French Club will launch a Picasso-inspired art project, due to it being the month of Mois de la Francophonie (March). This project will allow students to use their artistic abilities by drawing using some of Picasso’s artwork, or, they can use a French artist of their choice. It is an artistic experience for all students who decide to participate. The event consists of projects that will make it easy for students to earn service hours such as drives, providing supplies, and more. In the near future, the French Club is planning on hosting more food parties to celebrate the culture of Francophone countries.
