At the Fort Lauderdale International Book Fair held on February 3rd, 2024, mixed rock band LAPSE made their first public debut. The band made an emergence into the performance scene with songs such as “Locked Out Of Heaven” by Bruno Mars and “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley. Their repertoire included music in genres such as alternative rock, pop, classic rock, and dystopian music.
Consisting of STA sophomores Adrian Moncada, Samuel Horta Barajas, Logan Milicevic, and Phoenix Broquadio, the band was created in March of 2023 when Adrian and Phoenix came up with the idea of creating LAPSE before eventually including Logan and Samuel. They began practicing in a garage, where they built teamwork skills and strengthened their bond as bandmates. When asked about the meaning behind the name LAPSE, lead vocalist Adrian Moncada gave a meaningful response: “LAPSE is another way of saying a break out of time and, to me, that is what music is…the ‘LAPS’ stands for our initials and the ‘E’ represents experience.” Truly, the experience within LAPSE has gone beyond playing instruments into an experience of being a part of a strong group.
The members of LAPSE alluded to possible upcoming gigs, including a predicted “LAPSE II” event in the near future. They will continue to primarily focus on cover music, but are looking to create new music as well. The group runs a TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram account displaying their journey as they progress.
